I’ve been thinking of the momentum that intrinsically comes with the new year, and more recently, even comes with the first day of Spring.

A clean slate… a dateline to start a new journey… the power to begin anew with fresh momentum…the drive for new goals, new dreams, promises to myself…

A new minute, hour, day, week, or month or season can work for that fresh start, too, right?

Momentum is a fragile thing… all kinds of obstacles may try to interfere with it… procrastination… excuses… sabotage from others… the undermining thoughts of our own mind…

“The momentum of continuous action fuels motivation, while procrastination kills motivation.”

 Steve Pavlina

One of Newton’s laws runs through my head: an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force…. And an object at rest stays at rest. I am reminded of this every time I stare at my exercise bike rather than get on it. Oh those outside forces.

Or I think perhaps it’s my ping pong ball theory of distraction that stops me.

Sometimes that ball comes back hard and sets me way back… momentum stalls.

Sometimes it comes softly, and I give it a swift return… or maybe it’s caught at the net and is stopped for the moment…

But look how far and long it can go if it just keeps moving… like us if we just keep moving… it’s almost infinite…

I know within us is the infinite power of momentum.

Think how far you and I can go if we just keep moving towards those goals and dreams.

Keep going.

You got this.

Remember:

“If you’re coasting, you’re either losing momentum or headed downhill.” –Joan Welsh

I’ll leave you with some tips about Momentum from Tony Robbins:

Get Clear: Gain clarity about where you are now.

Get Certain: Once you know where you are, create certainty about your ability to take your dreams and make them a reality… you can do this!

Get Excited: Now that you’re clear and have certainty, get excited about where you want to go ~ it’s the energy and force that builds your fire.

Get Focused: Now that you’re clear, certain, and excited, determine the results you want and when and how fast you want to achieve them… make a realistic timeline.

Get committed: Now that you’re focused, know your Why that this is a “must” and urgent for your attention and action. Consider: if momentum flounders, maybe the why isn’t strong enough.

Get Momentum: Never set a goal without taking an action towards attaining it… momentum starts with a single clear action… clarity, certainty, excitement, focus, and commitment leading to achieving those dreams and goals. One action followed by another and another.

“People who succeed have momentum. The more they succeed, the more they want to succeed, and the more they find a way to succeed.” ~ Tony Robbins
